Stoneware

Made from a grey glazed stoneware, textured with evidence of the body: evidence of fingers dragging through soft clay to create fur, feathers, scales. A monster clutching a goose. Linking the body and spirit together, this work comes from a dream sequence:

Standing on the edge of a bay in the far north, the forest was dead silent in the way it only can be during the coldest winter nights. The silence is broken by a sound in the distance, unclear at first, then louder and more frequent, before it reaches a crescendo: thousands of geese honking. On the horizon they appear, blacking out the moon.

Reaching up into the sky, I pluck one out of the air, and in one swift motion, bash it against the ground.

Silence.
